Seventy years ago farm prices had fallen drastically due to the severe drought and low prices for commodities. A group of farmers met in Killdeer to set up a cooperative oil company.

On January 12 1935, Articles of Incorporation were filed with the Secretary of State. The incorporators were Frank Regeth Jr., Hans Schmidt, Egnat Kulish, Jack Dvirnak, Peter Stroh, Elmer Merrill, John Lazorenko, V. Materna, Ted Sabrasky, Ludwig Schmidt, Sam Krivobok, Teopil Kostelnak, Joe J. Fettig, Sever Skjefte, and Stefan Petryszak. The witnesses were Gustav Schmidt and Charles G. Martin. The Notary Public was Robert Wilcox. The Articles of Incorporatoin were signed, certified and filed on March 25, 1935 by James D. Gronna, Secretary of State.

The first board of directors included Hans Schmidt, Elmer Merrill, Sam Krivobok, Ted Sabrasky, Robert Wilcox, John Lazorenko, and Frank Regeth Jr.

In April 1935, the bulk plant was leased from Frank Cleveland for $50.00 per month. The Farmers Union Oil Company of Killdeer was now open for business.

In 1940, a building was moved in from south of Dunn Center and the bulk plant was purchased from Mr. Cleveland. The Ford garage was purchased from Frank Oukrop for headquarters. The company bought the Dunham Lumber Building and the old Heatan Lumber building and additions were added to the garage in 1956.

The new station was built in 1964 for $56,460.88. In 1976 a warehouse was added to the station for $59,255.78. An addition shop bay was added in August 1991 at a cost of $19,729.68.

From 1996 to 2002 the company leased a station and shop in Halliday to try and increase our sales and volume. The lease was ended in 2002 due to economic reasons.

On May 18, 1999, the Cenex Convenience Store was opened on land that was purchased from the City of Killdeer. The C-Store has 4 sets of gasoline pumps and 2 sets of diesel pumps. The inside of the store offers Hot Stuff Pizza, Smash Hits Subs, burgers and fries, deli items, souvenirs, grocery items, health and beauty and auto accessories. The cost of the C-Store was $850,000.

In 1999, new lines and a tank monitoring system were added to the main location at a cost of $25,000. Also a new computer system was added at the main location alone with a security system.

The total sales volume for the first year in 1935 was $27,000. In 1946, total sales were $173,000. The record sales volume was during the oil boom in 1982 with total sales of $6,455,601. In the year 2004 the total sales volume was $3,643,520.

The total cash refund and stock retirements to the patrons in the past 70 years is $2,640,302. The cooperative has retired accumulated stock to the year of 1980. The board has changed change the policy and will retire $5,000 annually with estates being paid first.

Currently the company offers many services: refined fuels delivery, LP bulk delivery, oil, tires, batteries, hardware, farm products, animal health, on farm tire services baler belting, hydraulic hose repair and a full service shop.
